Hello! I'm Kim, and I love to crochet.
I picked up the hobby twelve years ago and have been hooked ever since. My favorite projects are small-scale and make people smile, like novelty coasters, children's items, fun hats, and stuffed animals. I'm also a literacy specialist and enjoy reading. My most recent crochet creations are sweet, cuddly teddy bear baby blankets made with Bernat Blanket Yarn. Having a brand-new nephew gave me an excuse to play with this fun pattern and work with one of my favorite yarns. One of the best things about this particular yarn is that it gets softer with each wash, which makes it perfect for children's items. It's also easy on your hands as you work with it. If you've never tried corner-to-corner (C2C) before, check out this tutorial offered by The Crochet Crowd: How to Crochet an Afghan: Corner to Corner Afghan. I found Mikey very easy to follow.
Here's what you'll need to get started on your blanket: Size J or K crochet hook (I used K) 2 balls of Bernat Blanket Yarn in a color of your choosing (I used Baby Teal) 1 ball of Bernat Blanket Yarn in Taupe 1 ball of Bernat Blanket Yarn in Vanilla or Antique White Small amount of Bernat Blanket Yarn in Black Pixel Graph, courtesy of Sarah at Repeat Crafter Me
- Ch - chain
- Sc - single crochet
- Dc - double crochet
- Trust the written pattern, even if you think it looks wrong as you're crocheting. This will happen around row 37. It'll look right in a few rows, I promise!
- Pay close attention to how to hide your "tails." This is a lot quicker than having to weave them all in later.
- Work on this blanket when you have few distractions or interruptions. Careful counting is critical!
- When you've finished the graph, attach the background-color yarn in the middle of the bottom edge and single crochet around the blanket, remembering to sc-ch1-sc in each corner. Go around the blanket in sc 2-3 times, and then switch to the antique white or vanilla to add shell edging. My favorite shell pattern is *sc, skip 2 sc, 5 dc in next sc, skip 2 ch; repeat from * around. Join to original sc and fasten off.
